Rare's online co-op pirate adventure Sea of Thieves finally has a release date, 20 March 2018. We're keen to crew up and take to the high seas, but if you're still not sure if a pirate's life is right for you, don't worry, you won't be any worse than some of videogames' most famous swashbucklers, as we find out later in the show. Subscribe for this show every Friday, why not? http://www.tinyurl.com/SubToOxbox
Take Guybrush Threepwood, from the Monkey Island series. Sure, he had some pretty exciting adventures, but you can't help but wonder how much more successful a pirate Guybrush would be if he didn't keep getting himself into ridiculous situations like accidentally turning his fiancee into a gold statue, having fights with monkeys, or dying.
Or real life historical pirate Stede Bonnet from Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. Black Flag portrays Bonnet as a kind of pirate fanboy who is so caught up with how awesome the admittedly awesome Edward Kenway is that he decides to become a pirate himself.
Edward's example leads to Bonnet finding the courage within himself to follow his dreams, which is lovely, though these dreams lead almost immediately to him being captured and hanged for piracy, which is less so.
