Though Yooka-Laylee is essentially a new Banjo-Kazooie game made by Playtonic Games (a studio made up of former staff from Banjo studio Rare), there are differences. Banjo the bear is now Yooka the chameleon and instead of Kazooie the bird we have Laylee the bat. Instead of collecting musical notes we now collect feathers called quills, and the most coveted prizes are golden pages known as pagies, rather than Banjo-Kazooie’s jiggies.

That said, the music, voices, art style and puzzles all bring N64 memories flooding back, making this a real workout for the nostalgia glands. If you’re interested, you can try it for yourself, albeit by preordering - the Toybox demo is available to those who preorder the game.

Yooka-Laylee is out on an undetermined release date in 2017 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
