Grousers, aka duckbills or spuds, were additions to tank tracks that gave them extra grip and spread out the vehicle's weight on muddy terrain. This helped them avoid getting stuck on the Battlefields of WWI and falling victim to artillery. Battlefield 1 actually showcases grousers in the game's campaign mission, "Through Mud and Blood."
