6 Metal Gear Solid 5 Fan Theories So Crazy They Might Be True

Of all the Metal Gear Solid 5 theories doing the rounds, the wildest are also the most compelling. Will you play as Gray Fox instead of Big Boss? Is Ishmael real? Is it all a loopy coma dream? Is Eli actually Liquid Snake? Is mute underdressed sniper Quiet the traumatised child soldier Chico? Why is this unicorn on fire?

If there is one thing Metal Gear Solid fans love more than tactical espionage action, it's speculating about where the series is going next.

We already know plenty about Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain thanks to trailers, its prequel Ground Zeroes, and from it being set in the middle of the Metal Gear timeline.

That's all fuel to the fire of fans predicting what mind-bending high drama Kojima is going to spring on us in the finished game, so consider the six fan theories so bonkers they might just be true in the video above.

Some of the intriguing fan theories are plausible, such as the true identity of Eli, the youth "who curses his fate" and appears briefly in the trailer. Others are tenuous, such as the true identity of Quiet, the mute sniper who will catch a cold dressed like that.

But we wouldn't put any of the theories past the unpredictable auteurism of series mastermind Hideo Kojima, not even one of the dramatic bait-and-switches outlined in the video above. Let's not forget everyone thought Snake would be the hero of Metal Gear Solid 2 until they discovered to their delight they would actually be playing as Raiden for the majority of the game. Wait, not delight, what's the word? Fury.
