In this episode we take a look at the secrets and history of Amiibo. Amiibo is Nintendo's line of wireless communications and storage protocol toys and cards for use with the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, and games such as Super Smash Bros, Splatoon, and Super Mario Maker. It was launched in November 2014 in the form of system software updates and a series of Amiibo figurines. These models are similar in form and functionality to the Skylanders and Disney Infinity toy series. These figures use near field communication to interact with supported video game software, potentially allowing data to be transferred in and out of games and across multiple platforms.
