The whole situation with Ashes Of Creation shutting down and imploding completely out of nowhere has really left me feeling quite jaded about the future of the MMO genre, Ashes has for a very long time been the MMORPG that I was most looking forward to, but my support of the game and my excitement for it was basically based on something that turned out to be a misrepresentation of the truth, the whole reason Ashes Of Creation was supposed to be DIFFERENT is that they said for YEARS "We're self funded, there's no shareholders or board pulling the strings" but in the end that turned out to not be true, the accusations in the lawsuits are crazy but what can't be denied is that we was certainly lied to about the state of funding, IF I'd have known from the start that other investors were involved I'd have covered the game with much more skepticism, to be honest I just really wanted the game to exist and be good, I did my best, but I should have been most skeptical of the funding.
In the future I'll try to be less emotionally invested in upcoming MMOs, even the ones that I really want to succeed because time and time again we've seen that unless proven otherwise 95% of MMOs are either horribly mismanaged, misrepresent their development or turn out to be complete scams, I was wrong about Ashes, I really thought it'd make it to a full release, I thought if it's gotten to the point of development where it was releasing on Steam there was no way it wouldn't see a full release after being in development for so long, but I was wrong, I think I overinvested in Ashes so much emotionally over the years that I became delusional and wanted it to succeed, I probably ignored some red flags too, I'm sorry if you spent money on this game from watching my coverage over the years, to say sorry I'll do a Muay Thai fight and take some deserved punches to the head.
Sorry that this happened, massive L for me and the MMO genre, I'll try to do better in the future.
