Ashes Of Creation... I Have Some Thoughts | Steam Early Access First Impressions
Ashes of Creation has finally arrived on Steam Early Access, and with reviews sitting at "Mixed," I’m diving back into Verra to answer the big question: Is the hype finally meeting reality, or is it too early for a mass audience?
I’ve been covering the development of Ashes since the very beginning, and after the chaotic Steam launch on December 12th, 2025, I wanted to see how the game holds up for a solo player. While my initial impressions were rough—marred by bugs and technical hurdles—persisting past the early levels revealed a sandbox experience that might actually be something special.
In this video, I’m taking a deep dive into the current state of the Alpha 2 build on Steam. We’ll be looking at the updated new player experience in the Riverlands, the controversial Unreal Engine 5.7 graphics, the complex node and citizenship systems, and whether the "sandbox brain" gameplay loop of gathering and crafting is enough to keep players engaged.
Ashes of Creation is still very much an unfinished MMO. It’s a massive, unpredictable world where your progress is driven by your own goals rather than a linear questline. It’s currently a 5/10 experience in its raw state, but the long-term potential for fans of games like Archeage and Albion Online is undeniable.
