Ghost of Tsushima is an upcoming action-adventure game developed by Sucker Punch Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for PlayStation 4. Featuring an open world for players to explore, it revolves around Jin Sakai, one of the last samurai on Tsushima Island during the first Mongol invasion of Japan in the 1270s. The game is scheduled for release on July 17, 2020.

Ghost of Tsushima is an action-adventure stealth game. Played from a third-person perspective, it features a large open world without any waypoints and can be explored without guidance. Players can travel to different parts of the game's world quickly by riding a horse. An item that acts as a grappling hook will be available to access areas that are difficult to reach. The game will feature side quests. Other characters can be interacted with.

Players can engage in direct confrontation with enemies using weapons such as a katana. They can also chain up a series of fatal assaults after highlighting the enemies. Alternatively, using stealth allows one to evade enemies and strike them silently. One-versus-one dueling with non-playable characters is also optional.

The game is set on Tsushima Island, Feudal Japan in the late 13th century. It will feature a diverse assortment of regions such as countrysides, fields, shrines, ancient forests, villages, mountainscapes and various landmarks. Players will encounter numerous characters, friends and unlikely allies while adventuring.

Game director Nate Fox said: "This is a game that is entirely grounded in reality." "We're trying hard to transport people to 1274 Japan. We're inspired by history, but we're not building it back stone by stone. We're not trying to rebuild Tsushima island. Our protagonist is a work of fiction. We actually thought about using some historical figures, and we asked some people who are more culturally aware than us and they said that it would be insensitive, so we didn’t do it."

Characters
The protagonist, Jin Sakai (Daisuke Tsuji), was raised and trained as a samurai. Masako is a female samurai. The main antagonist is the ruthless and cunning general Khotun Khan of the Mongol Empire (Patrick Gallagher). Other characters include Onibaba (Minae Noji), High Priestess (Hira Ambrosino), and Ippei the Monk (Keisuke Hoashi).

Plot
Set on Tsushima Island in 1274, the game revolves around one of the last samurai, Jin Sakai, during the first Mongol invasion of Japan. The Mongol empire has conquered and devastated many countries and Tsushima is the final obstacle between the mainland of Japan and a huge Mongol invasion fleet. The island was devastated by the first wave of the Mongol invasion; the island's samurai forces fought against overwhelming odds and were defeated. Jin is one of the few survivors of his clan. His world is shattered and he faces a difficult decision to continue fighting the way he was trained or use unconventional means. He is resolved to do whatever it takes to liberate Tsushima. Jin will have to master a new fighting style, the way of the Ghost, to defeat the Mongol Empire and fight for the freedom and independence of Japan.
