Microsoft wants to create a cohesive family of devices to elevate the continuity of game purchases above what it is today. In a literal sense they are holding themselves back.

Sacrificing the ambition of brand new hardware and development tools, they will add value to the consumer in a way which should honestly be commended in todays industry climate.
