Show of the Week: Dying Light and the 5 Ickiest Zombies in Zombie Games

At sundown, open-world zombie basher Dying Light swaps your regular zombies for ickier, meaner variants called volatiles. Show of the Week sees how these nocturnal jerks stack up against the special shamblers of other zombie games.

The Left 4 Dead bestiary is loaded with stomach-churning "special infected", for instance, whose oozy mutations rank them high among the least appealing zombies ever. Here, the bloated, bile-spraying boomer is king. Inspect the video above for the boomer's giant herniated belly button, but not if you've eaten recently.

But the title of ickiest zombie is hotly contested, and Dead Space's fancy space zombies ('necromorphs', if you must) fields a strong competitor in the shape of the "divider". This is a long and spindly shape that disintegrates into several small and spindly shapes that want to twist off Isaac's head and plant themselves in his neck.

The divider always wears a tattered lab coat, so I assume this is the ironic fate reserved for Dead Space research scientists who were inventing a new kind of modular zombie, that seems like a thing they would do.
