Friday the 13th: The Game is based on the classic slasher movie franchise in which unhappy campers try not to be killed by supernatural ice hockey enthusiast Jason Voorhees. Murder juggernaut Jason is as unstoppable as ever in the Friday the 13th game, but other horror villains have suffered serious nerfing in being adapted for videogames. Pity them in Show of the Week and subscribe for this show weekly: http://www.tinyurl.com/SubToOxbox
Friday the 13th: The Game is out now on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. In it, one randomly selected player controls Jason himself, while up to seven other players control the unlucky young camp counselors of Camp Crystal Lake, who must work together to keep Jason at bay and formulate an escape plan.
That’s no easy task. Jason is already a pretty intimidating foe, and as the round goes on he gains new powers, including the ability to sense where campers are, and the ability to teleport, which, coupled with his strength and resilience make him a terrifying force to be reckoned with.
Friday the 13th: The Game started out as a Kickstarter crowdfunded project called Slasher Vol 1: Summer Camp before it acquired the official Friday the 13th licence, building buzz via word of mouth.
It’s proved more popular than the developers were even expecting, perhaps, with a number of players reporting issues connecting to the game since it launched. The developers are working to remedy the situation, so if you’re thinking of picking up Friday the 13th yourself, keep an eye on game’s Twitter account @friday13thgame to see how they’re getting on.
