Because PUBG doesn’t bother explaining the story, the setting or even the rules of a battle royale, it just kicks you out of the back of a transport plane and leaves you to work out how to survive for yourself. And yes, hiding under some stairs and quietly sobbing is a valid tactic.

But if you really must have a storyline for your head canon, just imagine the one from that movie, what was it called again? Oh yeah, Battle Royale.
