The Galactic Empire was no slouch when it came to giant weaponised space stations, but even their architects would be impressed by the destructive power of Halo's Halos or the economical design of Final Fantasy 8's Lunatic Pandora, which doesn't bother with fiddly lasers - it just dumps a load of monsters onto the planet below and lets them do the hard work.

More to the point, none of the space weapons in the video above have thermal exhaust ports vulnerable to missiles from plucky rebel pilots. The ODIN orbital missile platform in Call of Duty: Ghosts' *is* vulnerable to stowaway space terrorists, but then if you can't lock your own space doors, that's your own lookout.
