We love games with multiple endings, they make all our careful choices seem meaningful. But they also open the way for the dreaded downer ending - that's the one where everything explodes and everyone is miserable or dead. Here are the seven bleakest
Beware of spoilers in the video above for Mass Effect 2, Heavy Rain, BioShock, Fallout 3, Far Cry 3, Resident Evil and Dishonored, each of which has at least one alternate ending that's darker than a black steer's tookus on a moonless prairie night.

It's easy to wind up with some of these downbeat endings, by fluffing a quick time event or breezily harvesting the ADAM from one too many Little Sisters. Others take a really determined combination of negligence and tactical stupidity, as we see in Mass Effect 2. Bet you wish you'd done those loyalty missions now, eh, Shepard?
