The HBO series The Knick (2014) has some very intense medical scenes set at the turn of the 20th century, back when anesthesia and blood transfusions weren't yet a thing.
It also has some well-executed VFX, because one thing that is simply impossible to do practically is remove body parts from actors.
This scene from Season 1, Episode 3 features a patient who has lost her nose. VFX studio Phosphene did an amazing job digitally replacing the actress's nose with a CG cavity to sell the effect.
Now that you've seen it, can you forget this scene?
