Legion Commander is a fairly competent mid who is really fun for pub games because you can snowball with good decision making!
When playing mid with Legion Commander you should aim for treads and bottle then build into an initiation item like Blink Dagger or Shadow Blade, and follow it up with a BkB or AC according to your enemy heroes.
Try to do some ganking once you hit 6, then fight/gank/farm until you get shadow blade or blink dagger, and then make a major ganking presence on the map against enemy supports so that you can take duel damage from them.
