Nyx Assassin is a great offlane(or support) hero because of his ability to sap level 6 and contribute to the map. This works because he's a melee hero with a huge base regen of ~3/sec, and he can grab a poor mans shield, which with his super high base armor, further increases his survivability.
In the mid game, aim for ganking, blink dagger, and making things happen on the map(creating space). He's fun.
I didn't play him like that this game, but you're supposed to! You can also just do support since he has good regen.
