Dark Souls 3 is the latest instalment in the notoriously tough Dark Souls series, which made dying over and over in a game fashionable for the first time since the early 90s.

In an era where most games trigger a checkpoint every thirty seconds or so, Dark Souls 3 instead uses its constant saving to make sure you remain properly punished whenever you screw up. Picking your painstaking way back to the spot where you last died is the only way you'll learn, after all.

Later in the show, we contrast the harsh-but-fairness of Dark Souls with the harsh-but-harshness of the unfairest games we've ever played and griped about for years after. We are still looking at you, Turbo Tunnel in Battletoads.

Dark Souls 3 comes out on 12 April 2016 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
