Survival game We Happy Few was an offbeat hit at E3 2016 thanks to its kooky Clockwork Orange-inspired premise, creepy masked characters, and how it included people smashing a rat to bits and eating the bits. In the video above, Show of the Week examines the true nature of this narrative-led, drug-addled, 1960s-set open-world adventure, in which the population of fictional British town Wellington Wells is hooked on drug called Joy.

This drug means that even as the world collapses around the townspeople, everyone believes they are living in a brightly coloured, utopian paradise. Everyone is also wearing a spooky blank white mask, though it's unclear so far if this is an unintended side effect or a alternative-history fashion statement.

Speaking of spooky masks, videogames are full of them. If you're after some facial wear to disturb your family and friends, we fully recommend you look to those in the video above for a whole load of nightmare-fuelling inspiration.

A preview version of We Happy Few is available in the Xbox Game Preview scheme on July 26, 2016.
