Show of the week takes a trip to Far Cry 4's Kyrat: a beautiful, mountainous country ruled by a brutal dictator with a nice line in natty suits. Join us as we examine this latest in Ubisoft's exotic shooter series and assess whether it has the five essential elements required by every Far Cry game.
Far Cry 3 veterans will feel right at home in Far Cry 4 thanks to the recognisable gameplay loops of driving cars, hunting animals, climbing towers and wrecking up enemy outposts, but although this familiarity makes Far Cry 4 feel less fresh, that doesn't mean it is any less fun.
The overlapping systems of human enemies, predatory animals and open-world physics can still produce surprises. Carnivorous surprises that appear out of nowhere and claw your face off, usually.
But it wouldn't be a Far Cry game without deadly animals, would it? I mean, unless it was Far Cry 1. Barring a few parrots in that original game, the first proper wildlife in the Far Cry series was the safari park's worth of African fauna in Far Cry 2.
Lethal critters have since become as integral to the series as a map editor, an exotic locale, and, thanks to Far Cry 3, a charismatic baddie. Stick around for Mike's definitive guide to what makes a Far Cry game a Far Cry game.
