Omniknight is generally played(in pubs) as a solo hero who rushes a fast mek then ends up protecting his allies which allows you to swing ganks and get kills while saving an ally.

He's one of the few heroes that has an ally heal, and it also happens to be useful offensively.

He also can give himself or allies magic immunity, but this does prevent you from healing your ally, so you have to be careful when using it. I mainly used Repel this game to prevent myself from getting stunned, and to remove negative debuffs like amplify damage, which ends up reducing my armor by a ridiculous amount.

If you want to play Omniknight in a pub, I recommend going for arcane boots and a Mekanism.
